From Optimist to Cherub, variety has been the theme in boats, Recently the RS Asymmetric classes have done well. Indeed, they seem to be suited to the reservoir; enough distance to get going well and stretch out a lead, enough manoeuvrability to cope with windshifts rolling off the hills. 

The race is meant to be a significant sailing test, so it is longer than most of our races. It can be a navigational exercise depending upon the deviousness of the OD. Ideally it has to be potentially suitable for all classes of boats. 

Legend has it that the Pin used to come full of beer. (A Pin is a brewing industry measure of 4 and a half gallons.) When the wooden vessel was not used enough to remain scrupulously clean a tray of beer cans was supplied instead.  

We have had Junior and Youth winners of the overall race more than once. (They don't get the beer)

In 2023 Matt Sanderson made this handsome trophy, based on the start/finish line Pin Buoy. There is plenty of space on the base for many winners to be recorded. We have started another winner's table for the best junior or youth in the race, whether they won the overall race outright or not.
