Welsh Dragons Racing Series 2026

This series is organised by the RYA Cymru Wales South Wales Regional Committee and Clubs
Whilst quality racing is the intention of the series, courses may be adapted and training may be provided to suit the age and ability of competitors. The series will cater for experienced racers (wanting to practice against their squad mates!) through to novice sailors travelling to their first competition.
It is the ethos of the Dragon Series to welcome and help less experienced sailors. Experienced sailors and parents are asked to always assist less experienced sailors at these competitions e.g. check rigging, advice on how to replace unsuitable kit, where to go, launching etc.
2026 will see several fleets to ensure all youth sailors are racing against sailors of equivalent ability. Changing fleets during the series is possible but results in different fleets will not be able to be taken into acount for the overall series results. The fleets are:
| General Handicap Gold | Boat Classes: 420, 29er, ILCA 4, 6 & 7, RS Feva, any other double handed boat. For Welsh Squad sailors. |
| General Handicap Silver | Boat Classes: 420, 29er, ILCA 4, 6 & 7, RS Feva, any other double handed boat. For sailors who are aspiring to gain a place in next year’s Welsh Squad or have attended other Welsh sailing events. |
| Junior Handicap Gold | Boat Classes: Optimists, Tera Sport & Pro, Topper 4.2 & 5. For Welsh Squad sailors. |
| Junior Handicap Silver | Boat Classes: Optimists, Tera Sport & Pro, Topper 4.2 & 5. For sailors who are aspiring to gain a place in next year’s Welsh Squad or have attended other Welsh sailing events. |
| Training Handicap | Any class of boat. For sailors taking part in their first few events. |
Cost of each event: £20 single handed or £25 double handed.
Medals will be awarded at each event.
Completion of 3 out of the 5 race days is needed to be considered for the series and to be awarded a Welsh Dragon t-shirt.
Overall series prizes will be presented at the Onboard Festival.
